Connecting and Configuring Infinite Uploads Plugin

This document covers how to connect your sites to the Infinite Uploads cloud with the Infinite Uploads plugin so you can store and serve your media files from the Cloud.

The Infinite Uploads plugin includes:

  • Media library disk utility
  • Smart plan recommendations
  • One-click account connect
  • Automatically port existing files to the cloud
  • WP CLI command for fast direct file transfer
  • Instant CDN Delivery
  • New uploads automatically stored and served from the cloud

The Infinite Uploads plugin is free and can be used to connect an unlimited number of sites to your account. If you don't have an account yet, this guide will walk you through the process as part of the setup process.

Getting Started

The Infinite Uploads plugin is located in the WordPress repository. This makes it easy to install right from the dashboard and simplifies update management.

From the WordPress dashboard under the Plugins tab, click the Add New button. Type "Infinite Uploads" into the search bar, click Install Now, and then Activate.

When the Infinite Uploads plugin is activated, a new menu Infinite Uploads tab will be added in the Media menu.

Infinite Uploads Setup Wizard

Go to the Infinite Uploads screen and click the Run Scan button to quickly analyze the existing content in your Media Library. When the scan is complete, the Local File Overview screen provides a breakdown of the files that are currently being stored in the uploads directory on your server.

This includes:

  • Total bytes
  • Total files
  • Breakdown of file types
  • A graphic visual

The files will be categorized as:

  • Images
  • Video
  • Code
  • Documents
  • Archives
  • Other

Click the Connect button for smart recommendations (if you do not have a plan) or to connect to an existing Infinite Uploads plan.

Connecting To Infinite Uploads

When you click the Connect button, you will be directed to the Infinite Uploads page to either:

  • Create a new account
  • Log in to an existing account

In this section, we will cover both.

Creating a New Account

If you are not logged in when you click the Connect button, you will be taken to our smart pricing recommendations page where the plan that will fit all the files in your Media Library will be pre-selected. You can upgrade or change to a smaller plan at any time.

Note: Custom CDN urls are only available through our business plans. So, if you would like to change your storage URL from a default like agsdv.infiniteuploads.com to something like media.yoursitename.com, you will need to upgrade to one of our business plans. We cover how to setup a customized CDN URL in another section.

Follow the account creation process to setup your account. When creating a new account you will be given a 7 day free trial. A credit card is required on account creation to that ensure service continues uninterrupted. You can cancel at any time before the trial ends and you will not be charged.

Login to An Existing Account

If you wish to connect your site to an account that already exists, click the Login to connect to your existing account link under the "Already a Member?" header.

Create a New Library

Next, you will be asked to setup a new storage location and connect your site. If your site was previously connected to Infinite Uploads, you will be given the option in the dropdown menu to reconnect the site to the existing location. Alternatively, you can setup a new storage location where you can upload your files.

Choose a Region

This is where the files will be stored.

We currently offer 2 server locations:

  • United States
  • Europe (Germany)

For the best performance or compliance with regional or local federal regulations, choose the location closest to your hosting provider servers. Once selected this cannot be changed without a file migration.

Note: Files will be delivered from the CDN with +45 edge locations. This will drastically improve performance for your end users. Storage location is more important for actions like uploading or regulations like GDPR.

Sync to the Cloud

After the region is selected the storage will be created and you will automatically be redirected back to sync your files. On the Ready to Sync screen the status icon will be orange when the site is ready to connect.

Click sync now and Infinite Uploads will automatically sync your files to the cloud.

Note: Auto sync requires you to leave your browser open during the initial sync and may take several hours depending on the size of your Media Library and the number of files already uploaded. If your host allows it, moving your files with WP CLI commands is faster and more reliable. See the  WP-CLI documentation for instructions.

Once all your files have transferred successfully, you will be directed to the Enable Infinite Uploads module. Click the Enable button and your Media Library will begin serving all your files from the CDN. New files will skip the local filesystem and be synced directly to the Infinite Uploads Cloud.

When the module closes, the cloud status icon will change colors and display a check mark indicating that your files are now serving from Infinite Uploads.

Infinite Uploads will attempt to clear the cache and begin serving media files immediately. If files appear broken immediately after enabling Infinite Uploads, you need to clear your full page cache and refresh your browser.

How can I verify it is working?

There are two ways to ensure your files are being delivered from Infinite Uploads.

From the WordPress Dashboard:

Go to Media > Library and click on an existing file to open the Attachment detail module. Check whether the File URL is using the Infinite Uploads url assigned to your media library. It should look something like https://efd3f.infiniteuploads.cloud/.

Using the browser's built-in developer inspect tools:

You can also visit the front end of your site, right-click on any of your media files, and select inspect. This will display what url your file is being served from.
